How to Make A Cat Eared Cap

DSC02905 (1)

Hello Everyone!

Apologies for a late blog post, I’ve been very busy with multiple responsibilities, job searching, and planning for my favorite event, my graduation!

I completed college in the Fall, so I’m technically in the class of 2016. However, my university decided to lump all of us together and combine the graduates of Fall ’16 and Spring ’17, thus resulting in a very late ceremony.

One of the fun things we get to do as graduates is customize our caps, and this is how I customized mine: with cat ears. Not only is this super fun and easy to do, this is also a great way for your family to spot you from afar. Whether they’re trying to look for you in the stands or while you’re marching, you are sure to stand out. Here’s how to make them.

Step 1: Get a cat hand band or make your own.

I found that it is super easy to grab a headband with cat ears attached already, and replace the embellishments to your liking. I picked a cheap one from Nordstrom Rack and replaced the original design with something I preferred. A way to make your own cat headband is by getting a plain black headband (or one that matches the color of your cap), get some bendable wire and attach it to the headband. Pinterest has some great tutorials on how to accomplish that.

Step 2: Beautify.

Decorate your ears how ever you’d like. I added flowers to mine because I really like florals for spring (groundbreaking I know…). I recommend using a hot glue gun. Crazy glue works, but keep in mind, you’d have to reattach it overtime as it won’t stay in place. Glue your decorations on to the ears portion of your headband and let it dry on a flat surface.

Step 3: Attach to cap.

Now that you have made your cat ears, place your newly decorated cat headband on the base of the cap, not the flat part. You want this to act like a headband, unless you prefer to put ears on the flat part, that is entirely up to you. Now that you have it on your head, stick some bobby pins in there to prevent it from slipping.

Step 4: Look fabulous.

Style your hair to your liking, wear your favorite dress or whatever makes you happy, and congratulations! Not only did you earn a diploma, you look amazing!

Congratulations to the classes of 2016 and 2017! Don’t forget (I don’t know who said this) “cats always outsmart dogs.” In other words, be a cat, and outsmart all of the dogs in your lives (just kidding, I like dogs, dogs are smart too, just in a different way). Good luck! ❤

Best Cat Films

“Catflix and Chill” cat owner unknown

Like everyone else, I too enjoy a great cat flick. No, I don’t mean that kind of cat flick I mean an actual cat, as in the god of all domesticated pets (if you thought otherwise, you nasty). Here are a few highly recommended films.

The Cat Returns

This is probably my favorite one. It’s an Alice in Wonderland-like fantasy. All of the kitties were beautifully drawn and the characters are adorable. Plus it’s a Ghibili film, which makes it even more exciting.

Oliver and Company

What I like about this film is that it is all about integration between cats and dogs. Yes, they can be friends and help each other out. I also love that this was inspired by Oliver Twist.

Aristocats

Another Disney Classic. This is the granddaddy of cat films. It sort of started everything, including an accurate media portrayal of cats. But in all honesty, it is a very adorable cat film with a great soundtrack and adorable characters.

Lion King

This obviously isn’t about domesticated cats, but it is still one of the best cat films I have ever seen. It’s lions inspired by Hamlet. If anything it just proves that cats no matter how big or small, can be the most complex of characters.

These are my favorites so far. I have yet to see more, I really want to see A Cat In Paris and that new Puss in Boots film but we’ll see what I’ll actually be able to get around to.

Till next time!

How To Design a Minimalist-Cat-Themed Abode

From Catify

My personal goal in life is to achieve my full mystic form in the most Millennial way possible: with cats and minimalism. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hello Kitty and Pusheen, but I love all cats equally.

I thought I’d share some fun ways to cover your home in cats, stylishly.

Find great inspiration through art and pop culture.

This is one of my favorite prints, it’s by Tobe Fonseca and features kitties as the Joy Division album cover, Unknown Pleasures. It’s simple, memorable, and cute, and people will think you’re cool and cultured… pop-cultured, that is.

Furr Division” by Tobe Fonseca

Start small. Get things that look subtle.

If you’re not too ready to commit and don’t want the burden of being “branded,” find small and distinguishable items that embody YOU as a cat lover. I recommend understated and subtle pieces that express “catluvah.” Mugs and trinkets are a great way to start.

Now actually cover your home with cloth that has cat or cat-like things.

Get bedsheets and mix them up with other kinds of neutral bedsheets for a sophisticated and clean look. It will appear effortless and chic at the same time.

Get nice, minimalist, and cat-friendly furniture to compliment your cat themed items, and your future cat.

It is generally a good idea to get furniture that is comfortable, doesn’t get ruined easily, and fits your “aesthetic.” Obviously this isn’t my cat, but it looks good in a sleek and sculptural Eames chair.

Skincare

As much as I love talking about cats, I also like to talk about other things. Like most Millennials, I really like what I buy, and I always want to share what I buy. Here is what I have bought in the past:

Lagom Cellup Gel to Water Cleanser

This is a Korean-brand, and is sold in Target. This water-based cleanser works super well on my combo-sensitive skin. It must be that cool science H2O formula that is easy on my skin and doesn’t irritate it. It’s feels light, absorbs quickly and is effective. I haven’t had many major breakouts from it. I really do enjoy this product.

Angels on Bare Skin

I am a pretty hard-core “Lushie.” I’ve been a part of the cult since 2013, and it is where I got my first job! I obviously have a sentimental attachment to the company, but for natural products, they work pretty well! What I love about this cleanser is that it makes my skin feel really soft and radiant. It exfoliates but it doesn’t strip my skin of any moisture, and it doesn’t irritate my skin at all. This is probably one of my favorite products from the company and I highly recommend it if your skin is on the sensitive/dry/combo side.

French Girl Rose Lip Polish

So I have pretty dry lips, and this is the best lip scrub I have ever used. It exfoliates, it hydrates, it was recommended Ingrid Nilsen, and it is amazing! I like that it smells like lychees, but most importantly, I love that it is moisturizing. It tastes great and it makes your lips feel soft and smooth.

Okay… scratch that… I’m going to talk about cat themed skincare products, because… I want them. I want my entire house to be filled with cats.

Cats are my aesthetic.

Pure Smile Cat Sheet Mask

Sheet masks are pretty awesome. I haven’t used this one in particular yet, but because it lets you become a cat-human, I’m willing to give it a try. Maybe scare some people.

Meow Meow Tweet

This is an organic body-care brand that was also recommended by several vlogs, including the vlog-queen herself, Ingrid Nilsen. I love organic stuff, and I need something to spend my money on something frivolous, so I’m gonna buy this in the future.

All right…. I have tried to talk about something else besides cats. And… now here is a picture of an actual cat! Much cuter than skincare products.

I love cat themed products, and here are my favorites!

Kigurumi

Tabby Cat and Hello Kitty

These animal onesies are the best! They’re super comfortable and adorable. My favorite thing about Kigurumi is that they sort of double as blankets and come in almost every animal and character possible.

Any kind of cat kitchenware (or kitty ware as my boyfriend calls it) or decor.

Minimalist animal themed decor is in. As much as I love mid-century modern and kitschy themed stuff; my thing is cat tableware, kitchenware, coasters, everything. You can find these cute little items at Modcloth or Anthropologie.

Cat themed art

There is nothing cooler than showing your appreciation for cats, than awesome cat themed art.

An actual cat-

Top 5 Instagram Cat Babies

Urara from @sanchelove

I’m sure you have noticed that I am obsessed with cats. I may not own one, but I LOVE cats. They are god’s gift to the world, random, fuzzy, beautiful creatures that the beauty industry named a style of applying eyeliner after.

Because I love cats, I thought I’d share with everyone some cats to follow to brighten your day! Here are my top 5:

1. Sanchelove

So I am obsessed with two breeds of cats: Scottish folds and Munchkin cats, and this cat owner has a calico-fold-munchkin baby who is literally my spirit animal and my dream cat. The cat’s name is Urara and she is the most baby of cats. She has other cat siblings, and they are all so cute and adorable and they all make my boyfriend and I smile!

2. petitep0chemie

This cat is a straight up princess. She goes to really nice hotels, is pushed around on a stroller, wears the fluffiest jackets, and gets to pose next to a store bag from Bottega (not the real purse, just the shopping bag); and I can’t even afford a pair of shoes… Overall this cat is just adorable to watch and is probably the Japanese princess of Scottish fold cats, if I have ever seen one.

3. Little_milo_munchkin

This cat owner has two munchkin cats named Milo and Munchkin. Both are equally cute, Milo is super funny because he will meow and bug his owner until he gets fed. And Little is just big eyed and squishy looking.

4. matsumotoooooo

This is Matsumoto, it plays with sinks, is a really pretty cat and is absolutely darling. My boyfriend really likes this cat because he kind of relates to it. This cat is primarily known for sticking it’s head under running water and it’s just the cutest thing.

5. white_coffee_cat

This cat is just amazing. He battled cancer and won, he is simply cute and fluffy and has the best looking tail if I have ever seen one. He is also related to Nala, a very famous Instagram cat, and he has a younger cat sister named Luna Rose. What I love about this cat is that he just appears to be friendly and pleasant. His owners have him posing in bed and on their laps with i-phone cases advertising their stuff, and despite all that, he’s just a well behaved kitty.

So those are my favorite Instagram cats and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Welcome!

Hello there,

It appears you have found my personal blog. First, I’d like to say, welcome! You have entered the “inner machinations of my mind,” which unlike Patrick Star’s are not too much of an enigma.

If you’re wondering what kinds of personal things I’ll be sharing on this blog, it will range from  cats, to fashion, to beauty, to baking, movies, favorite music, favorite products, basically anything that I am either obsessed with or that involves my daily lifestyle. I’ll also be covering topics that are college related, things to do in Los Angeles, or any travel event that could be interesting to share. Who knows, you might even see more written personal pieces or something. I don’t know where this is taking me, but I do know that it could be fun!

Enjoy the rest of your day, and thanks for stopping by!
